what is filtr collective?

Before AGITATE opened, Filtr Collective formed as a company to try and make exhibiting work easier. We have put our plans for Filtr Collective on hold over the last few months as we focussed on renovating the shop, but rest assured we have more exhibitions and events waiting in the pipeline…

Manifesto

Filtr Collective is a new way of showcasing photography. Forget the quiet of traditional gallery spaces, Filtr uses independent cafes across Edinburgh as evolving exhibition venues to platform emerging artists. A changing trail across the city, Filtr aspires to engage new audiences with photography, connect a digital audience to new coffee hangouts, democratise art ownership and inspire fresh ideas.

The Collective is fully funded by its three founders, and proceeds from print sales are split between us and selected artists, with the artist always receiving the majority after cost of printing. A small percentage of each sale will go towards funding future projects and collaborations. Filtr’s three founders all have a history in hospitality, and know the creativity and ingenuity behind the scenes at Edinburgh’s top coffee spots. The core aims of the venture are to celebrate Scotland’s image-makers and independent businesses, refresh the idea of exhibiting work, create opportunity for collaboration and creative exchange.
